The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which is currently run by management committee chairman Najam Sethi, sacked chief medical officer Dr Najeeb Soomro.
A local cricket website reported that Soomro, who was appointed in 2021 by then-PCB CEO Wasim Khan, has been dismissed from his post.
Najeeb was appointed after Dr Sohail Saleem resigned following some COVID-19 cases that emerged during the Karachi-leg of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 6.
Najeebullah, an MBBS from Karachi’s Dow University of Health and Sciences and a Ph.D from Discipline of Exercise and Sports Science, The University of Sydney, made a name in Australian sport.
During his stint, many players including Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Shahnawaz Dahani, Shadab Khan, Hassan Ali, Mohammad Rizwan and many other players suffered severe injuries. Despite injuries, players took risk of playing in competitive matches.
Meanwhile, PCB has given an advertisement for the post of Director Sports Medicine.
Moreover, few more resignations at high level are expected in the near future.
